|I feel very honored that Leah has asked me for a guest post on her blog! My name is Lori and I host the blog “Finding Radiance” where I journal life after losing 100+ pounds and what I do to keep it off (and hopefully take off a little more :D)
Leah asked to write about what losing weight has given me freedom from in honor of Independence Day. There are lots of things, like freedom from Lane Bryant, freedom from teasing, freedom from obesity-related health problems, etc. However, I wanted to mention a freedom that I *gained* from losing weight. This is the freedom of movement.
When I was at my heaviest (250 pounds), I was able to move around and do things, and I thought I was somewhat strong. However, doing stuff just tired me out. Carrying around 100 extra pounds is a lot of extra work that a body has to do just to function each and every day. I really never wanted to admit how tiring it was to try to exercise or even just walk around the mall. Being active was just not something I enjoyed. At all. Part of that was because I had an all-or-nothing mentality, so I figured if I was going to exercise, I may as well go out and run! Big mistake. I hated it because I expected too much of myself right out of the box. I then started with simple Walk Away The Pounds videos. Listening to Leslie talk about the importance being just to keep moving, not to be like everybody else, really sank in, finally. I realized it was okay to go slow and then try to improve each time.
As the weight came off, I began challenging myself to more and more active things. I began lifting weights (which I love), and building strength allowed me to do more and more. I then got a bike (which I adore!) and started riding small rides each day. Over the last couple of years, I have really increased my bike mileage and I have a goal of a single day 100-mile ride this summer. The old Lori never would have even wanted to do that. Now I look forward to it.
Independence Day celebrates the freedom of our great country. Let it be inspiration to free yourself to do whatever it is that you want to do. You might be pretty surprised at what you are truly capable of when you give yourself a chance.
My New Ending on InstagramToday my friend and I took time catch up during a morning walk and it was just what I needed. 💞 I’ve been MIA around here and hopefully soon I’ll have more minutes to spare to catch everyone up, but suffice it to say I’m alive and well and today I’m grateful for a rainy morning that cooled things off for our walk. ☺️❤️🌦 . . . #mynewending #morningwalk #friendlychats #keepmovingRemembering...❤️🇺🇸💙 Happy Memorial Day from our home to yours. While my car is being washed I’m reminding myself... 💭 Life. Happens. and today I said, but I’m going to make sure I get my workout checked off the to-do list, and on the “things to not do” list I’m going to check the “eat all the things to avoid life” box. 😉 Maybe I’ll check back later and let you know if I stuck to the latter. #wishmeluck #oneofthosedays #toomuchtodo #momentsofoverwhelm #butiqorkedout #keepmoving #dontquit #nevergiveup #inthisforlife #onedecisionatatime #fitmom #healthierme #healthierchoices #mynewendingI have been itching to get back to a spin class, so I was pleasantly surprised that our YMCA has spin bikes out with the cardio equipment. 😍 🚴🏼♀️ . . . #mynewending #spin #spinclass #keepmoving #30minworkout #fitmom #activemom #Spincycle #activelifestyle #ymca #dontquit #nevergiveupI got SO MUCH done today, but my workout wasn’t one of those things. 😞 It was really bothering me this evening as I enjoyed resting my feet and working on a baby blanket. __________ I decided I could either be okay with it, or modify the workout and do it at home. __________ I chose the latter and now I will go to bed feeling much more content. 😌 📷PC: My 17-year-old son.Looking for a well-made soy candle or wax melt? Check out the sale going on over at Bridgeway Scented Market this week. Link is temporarily in my profile. ❤️🌿 _______________________________ Bridgeway Scented Market has been my favorite for wax melts since I started buying from her at a local shop when I lived in North Carolina. In the 4-5 years I’ve been a customer I’ve seen Tamara continue to put out a fine product. I’ve tried her candles, room sprays and wax melts. Her ability to come up with new scents to match the seasons, all while keeping old favorites around, amazes me. _______________________________ I branched out and ordered 4 newer scents this time and I’m in love! Her descriptions were spot on, and I was pleased to smell what I hoped from each one. Thank you @bridgewayscentedmarket for more great products. I don’t think I’ll ever tire of being grateful to be able to obtain your awesome products even though I now live states away! ❤️
