Goal Weights

Diane wrote a post today on setting a goal weight that got me to thinking. I’ll have to write more about it later, but I find myself wondering, “Why do we feel the need to set a goal weight?” I haven’t ever really met a final goal weight in my life, so why would I set one now? Is it because now I know deep inside that I’m determined to lose this weight once and for all?

I’ll take any comments you’d like to offer and I’ll write more on it tomorrow.

I haven't set a firm goal weight, but I have set one that I have always considered flexible. The way I see it, it is very hard to know what you should weight at your ideal weight without having been there. There are too many factors, which can be summed up as lean body mass. However, having a general goal is a great idea. For me, I say my goal is 180, but if I get to 185 and realize I am there, then I will stop. If I get to 180 and realize it is not enough, then I will go to 175.

  2. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the subject!

I read Diane's post yesterday and was intrigued because I had never thought about looking at your weight loss as getting to the point where you felt happy with YOU instead of soley depending on the number on the scale. Scott keeps encouraging me (as I'm stuck right now) about my clothes fitting bettter and isn't that better than the number on the scale. So I'm keeping that in the back of my mind as I try to not look at my post-pregnancy flab!!!! Thanks for the chat last night – I really enjoyed it!
